LangJournal for Android uses the speech-recognition service configured on your device to turn speech into text. If the app reports that no recognition service was found, follow these steps in order.
Settings names vary by device manufacturer and Android version.
1. Check microphone permission
- Open Android Settings.
- Open Apps > LangJournal > Permissions.
- Allow Microphone access.
- Return to LangJournal and try voice input again.
2. Check the service recommended by the app
When a speech-recognition service is missing, LangJournal shows the recommended service name and a link to install it.
- Android 13 and later: Speech Recognition & Synthesis
- Android 12 and earlier: Google App
Use the link shown in LangJournal to open Google Play, then install or update the app. If the service is disabled, enable it from Android Settings > Apps.
3. Change the default voice-input service
LangJournal may also show a warning when the recommended service is installed but another service is set as the default.
- Open "Default Apps" or "Languages & Input" in Android Settings.
- Open an item such as "Voice Input," "Assist App," or "Speech Recognition."
- Select the service recommended in LangJournal.
- Restart your device and try voice input again.
If you cannot find the setting, search Android Settings for "voice input" or "speech recognition."
4. Check recognition data for your learning language
If voice input starts but does not recognize the target language, check whether that language is available in your device's voice-input settings. If downloadable on-device recognition data is offered, install it and try again.
If the issue continues
Restart the device and update both LangJournal and the recommended service. If speech input still does not work, contact us from Settings > Contact Us in the app and include:
- Device model
- Android version
- The error message shown
- The screen where you tried to use voice input
