Getting Started with LangJournal

2026-08-134 min read

LangJournal helps you build a language-learning routine around journaling, feedback, and review. You do not need to use every feature at once. Start by writing one short entry and reviewing one correction.

Available features may vary by learning language, device, and plan. See the Plans page for current availability and usage conditions.

1. Write an entry and review the correction

  1. Open Home and select "Write a Journal."
  2. Write about your day or your thoughts in the language you are learning. One to three sentences is enough to begin.
  3. Post the entry.
  4. On the journal screen, compare your original text with the corrected version.

Select a correction to review its suggested change and explanation. You do not need to memorize everything at once. Focusing on one useful correction each day is a good way to begin.

If a correction is still being prepared, it will appear on the journal screen when it is ready. If an error appears, follow the retry option shown in the app.

2. Continue learning from your entry

The lower part of the journal screen shows additional ways to learn from that entry.

Ask AI

Ask follow-up questions about your correction. Suggested questions can check whether the text sounds natural, review grammar and spelling, or provide a model version. You can also enter your own question.

Question limits and available AI models may change, so this guide does not list fixed allowances. Check the Plans page and "Usage (Limits & Benefits)" in the app for current details.

Review Exercise

Review Exercises turn relevant corrections into a focused practice task. This option appears when the entry and language are supported. Select "Try the Exercise" to answer it, then return to the same section to review your result.

CEFR Analysis

For English entries, CEFR Analysis helps you review the level of your writing. It provides an overall result and additional views such as vocabulary-level information.

Pronunciation practice and team sharing

On supported devices, you may see pronunciation practice for the text you wrote. If you belong to a team, you can also choose to share a recently posted entry with that team. Review the sharing scope before posting.

See Journal Sharing and Privacy for sharing details and the Team Owner Guide if you manage a team.

3. Practice more ways to express yourself

The Practice tab contains activities beyond journaling. Depending on your learning language, you may see options such as:

  • Chat: Talk with a character by text or voice and review corrections to your messages.
  • Translation Practice: On supported learning setups, translate a Japanese prompt into the language you are learning. This activity currently uses Japanese as its source language.
  • Voice Input: Speak freely and receive AI feedback on what you said.
  • Eiken Writing: For eligible English-learning setups, practice with past questions from Japan's Eiken exam.

Chat may let you choose a theme, level, or character. A short message in the Free Theme is enough to start practicing.

4. Review your Study Log and Insights

Study Log

The Study Log lets you return to previous journal entries and practice activities. Open an earlier entry to review its corrections and exercises again.

Insights

Insights shows study records such as your longest streak, total study days, and total journal entries.

Recent Mistakes collects correction topics that are worth reviewing. Select an item to see the relevant changes and return to the original entry.

When a weekly report is available, it can summarize your week and highlight areas to work on next. The information shown depends on your study data and plan.

5. Learn with a team

For supported learning languages, the Team tab lets you find a team or create one. After joining, members can learn together through shared entries and comments.

Your journal entries are not automatically published to a team. Only entries you choose to share are included. Before sharing, check that the entry and any additional information do not contain anything you want to keep private.

A simple routine to follow

  1. Write one short journal entry.
  2. Review one correction and its explanation.
  3. Use Ask AI or a Review Exercise when helpful.
  4. Revisit Recent Mistakes or your weekly report later.

Repeating a manageable version of this routine is more useful than trying to complete every activity each day.
